What happens when the frontman for legendary '80s hair metal band Twisted Sister writes and stars in his own holiday musical? Find out this season at "Dee Snider's Rock & Roll Christmas Tale", a head-banging spin on the classic Christmas story that's fun for the whole family. The play follows a heavy metal bar band Däisy Cütter, who are looking to make it big even though the '80s are long over. In mythic rock tradition, the four guys sell their souls to the devil in exchange for success beyond their wildest dreams, but every time they try to seal the infernal pact, their metal anthems turn into warm-hearted carols, and soon the rockers are forced to realize their dreams of stardom are no match for the Christmas spirit. Snider, who also starred in a run of the Broadway hit "Rock of Ages", authored and performs in this new stage work, which promises to be as warm-hearted and funny as it is rockin'. [less-]

Actress Linda Reiter commands the stage in this fierce drama by Irish author Colm Tóibín that turns the iconic mother of Jesus Christ into a fully realized, flesh-and-blood woman. Award-winning author Colm Tóibín first developed the "The Testament of Mary" as a 2011 monologue, then turned it into a highly praised novel, and now this new work, nominated for a 2013 Tony Award for Best New Play, focusing on an older Mary several years after the Crucifixion. Having been sheltered by the writers of the Gospels, she's nevertheless torn by grief and self-doubt as she gives her narrative of the last days in the life of her son, Jesus. Don't miss the Midwest premiere of this lyrical and thought-provoking work that "The New York Times" hailed as "beautiful and daring." [less-]

Your whole family will enjoy this heartwarming story of the first Christmas Tree Ship and the people who risked their lives to fill Chicago with the holiday spirit. Based on the shipwrecked Rouse Simmons, "The Christmas Schooner" is a powerful, moving story with an exquisite score by Chicago favorites John Reeger (book) and Julie Shannon (music and lyrics). The musical has entertained audiences for hundreds of productions, including a 12-year run at Chicago's Bailiwick Repertory Theatre. Set in the late 19th century, this holiday musical tells the song and dance-filled story of a close-knit group of German immigrants who receive a message from a Chicago-based cousin lamenting the lack of traditional Christmas trees. A shipping captain and his crew then undertake a risky late-season journey across the notoriously violent Lake Michigan to deliver the precious timber to the city, carrying with them a full cargo of holiday hope and joy.
