It's 1960 and life is good for Parisian lothario Bernard. His three fiancées -- one French, one German and one American -- are all beautiful airline attendants with frequent (but never overlapping) layovers in Paris. And thanks to Bernard's reluctant but faithful maid, who swaps out the photographs in his apartment according to schedule, the women are none the wiser about each other's existence. That is until a new, faster Boeing jet throws the airline schedules out of whack and Bernard finds himself with all three women on his hands at once. Throw in Bernard's friend, who's hilariously bad at keeping all the lies straight, and the whole plan is poised to fall apart. This slapstick farce from French playwright Marc Camoletti has been performed in London and on Broadway and was made into a 1965 film starring Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis. [less-]

"The Talking Cure" relives the seductive account of the birth of psychoanalysis, as told by "Dangerous Liasons" scribe Christopher Hampton. This captivating true story explores the turbulent relationships between Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and their first patient, the passionate Sabina Spielrein. A brilliant young "hysteric," Sabina is Carl Jung's first patient, and eventual colleague, as he seeks to refine the "talking cure" method of treatment proposed by his adopted mentor, Sigmund Freud. Traditional notions are shattered when Sabina begins to blaze her own trail and patient and doctor cross the ultimate boundary, becoming lovers. Under the creeping shadow of two World Wars, all three are drawn into a complex web of rivalries and dark desires that will eventually give birth to modern psychoanalysis. Fans of the sensual, psychological series "Masters of Sex" will appreciate Idle Muse's production of "The Talking Cure", unveiling at Chicago's Rivendell Theatre. [less-]

How is Macbeth to wash his hands of bloody murder, if even the water itself is polluted? This is the intriguing premise of a riveting new vision of "Macbeth", Shakespeare's most disturbing tragedy, from Scott Westerman, ensemble member and director of The Artistic Home Theatre. Inspired by the water crisis currently emerging in the Great Lakes region, Westerman has crafted a world where there is too much water and none of it is any good. In the show that "The New York Times" called ""RENT" for this generation," four 20-something New Yorkers laugh, love, drink and sing their way through the trials and tribulations faced by all young dreamers waking up in the city that never sleeps. "Next Thing You Know" comes to the stage of The Den Theatre by way of Refuge Theatre Project, asking important life questions of its characters -- as well as its viewers. Questions like: does marrying a nice guy mean you're settling down ... or just settling? Does working a nine-to-five equal giving up or growing up? And does a decade living in the city break you in or break you down? A musical filled with emotional resonance and cunning insights, "Next Thing You Know" features a book and lyrics by Ryan Cunningham and music by Joshua Salzman, the team responsible for another popular modern-day musical: "I Love You Because". Young Georgie Burkhardt doesn't believe the body the sheriff brought to the house was "really" her sister's. Georgie's so convinced, in fact, she goes out to find her in the wilds of Wisconsin circa 1871, kick-starting the mystery and momentum of "One Came Home", the new drama debuting at Lifeline Theatre. Adapted from the novel of the same name, "One Came Home" translates author Amy Timberlake's Edgar Award-winning tale into a riveting stage adventure. By turns humorous and heartbreaking, Georgie's trek tests the limits of her courage and the strength of her character. Combining live music with historical events (including the great passenger pigeon migration of 1871), "One Came Home" is a powerful and period-specific coming-of-age tale for all ages. Elise Kauzlaric directs the world premiere of Jessica Wright Buha's dramatic adaptation. [less-]

Hollywood, 1949 -- a Golden Age of cinema, yes, but also a time when stifling restraints kept actors under oppressive control. An era when movies were king and their stars were pawns. "The Glass Protege" tells the story of Patrick Glass, a naive young actor who embarks on a scandalous gay love affair and is shocked to discover the true power the studio system has over his career and his life. This powerful drama exposes the underbelly of the Hollywood machine, picking up on the story 40 years later to shed light on previously murky truths as the consequences of Glass' "unacceptable" romance are explored. Giant Cherry Productions invites you to step back into a time of glitz, glamour, passion and exploitation when "The Glass Protege" takes to the stage of Theater Wit. [less-]

You need no invitation, only a ticket, to attend "The Wild Party", one of the most aptly named musicals of all time. It's the Jazz Age and Queenie, a showgirl, has grown tired and resentful of her relationship with Burrs, a clown. To get back into the swing of things (and to get back at the violent Burrs), she decides to throw a party. But as their friends start to tumble in and the booze flows freely, the evening turns increasingly dark and decadent. Tony nominee Andrew Lippa ("The Addams Family") wrote the book, lyrics and music for this show that captures the verve and violence of the Roaring '20s. Now two-time Jeff Award winner Tommy Rapley directs a dynamic new production at Northwestern's Ethel M. Barber Theater. [less-]

Recently one of the hottest tickets on Broadway and a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize, Jon Robin Baitz's "Other Desert Cities" brings dysfunctional family drama to new heights. Christmas is always somewhat surreal in Palm Springs. It's made even more so this year when Brooke returns home after a long absence to present her conservative parents with a tell-all confessional novel that exposes a pivotal event in their family history. Now, old wounds are reopened, childhood memories are tested and the Wyeth clan learns that some secrets can't stay buried forever. Based on a children's book by one of Iceland's most celebrated young writers, this adventure -- equal parts "Peter Pan" and the myth of Icarus, with an eco-conscious spin -- follows best friends Hulda and Brimir. As you could easily guess about a planet where no one's faced the trials of puberty, or the tribulations of adulthood, their lives are simple but ideal. That is, until they encounter their first grown-up, the mysterious Jolly-Goodday, who makes the kids an offer they can't resist: the promise of a life filled with joy and non-stop fun. Find out what they're willing to trade for such a reward when "Blue Planet" has its U.S. premiere at Chicago's Akavit Theatre. [less-]

In this world-premiere production by Lauren Yee, Americans Katie and Craig are having a baby with the help of Suraiya, a surrogate from India. As all three adults anxiously await the baby's due date, Katie and Suraiya find their imaginations creating some colorful characters -- a seductive Frenchman for Katie and a sharp-tongued fetus for Suraiya. Originally developed at Victory Gardens' IGNITION New Play Festival in 2012, this smart new comedy takes you on a hilarious and highly theatrical journey into 21st-century parenthood and modern-day colonialism.
